Our History

In 1961, as Seattle was erecting the Space Needle in preparation for the World’s Fair the following year, 27 visionary kingdom leaders from around the Puget Sound met at West Seattle Christian Church. They came together to create a partnership to reach the region with the Gospel of Christ through the planting of churches patterned after the New Testament. The Christian Evangelistic Association was born!

In the ensuing 40 years more than 20 congregations were established. Though thousands came to Christ, it was evident that many more churches were needed!

Still passionate about its original vision, the CEA refreshed its leadership and retooled its methods at the turn of the millennium. Distinguished among church planting organizations across the country, our strategies and systems continue to be refined and retooled to plant more and better churches.

A catalyst for starting churches that start other churches, the CEA has recruited planters and partners to launch more than 30 new churches in the past 15 years. In evidence of our focus on multiplying churches, we’re expecting the launch of a 5th-generation church next year!
